To Find a Good Chiropractor, Consider These 3 Things
Decisions about healthcare are some of the most important decisions you will make in your life. Choices about diet. Choices about exercise. And choices about who you will turn to for healthcare guidance and hands-on care.
For many people, chiropractic care is part of that mix. But how do you find a good chiropractor, especially in the Cambridge, Ontario area?
Here are 3 factors that we recommend you consider before committing to a care relationship with any chiropractic practitioner.
1) How experienced is the chiropractor?
Now, it’s important to acknowledge that everyone has to start somewhere. Every seasoned chiropractor was once a beginner, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with partnering with a younger practitioner on your care. But like any practice, more years of experience means more insight, knowledge and hands-on understanding of unique situations. They’ve seen more, done more, and know more.
For this reason, it may be advisable to select either a veteran chiropractor or a newer practitioner who is part of a practice led by a more senior provider, which provides built in mentorship, support and passing on of knowledge.
2) Does their philosophy align with your approach to your health?
New clients sometimes come to chiropractic care with an incomplete understanding of what the practice is about. They know that chiropractors can help with back and neck pain (and we do!) but we’re not just focused on the back and neck. Chiropractic care is, at its core, a holistic approach to the entire nervous system of the body, which impacts, well, the entire body. Back and neck adjustments are an extension of that larger understanding of how the body works, how the body is disrupted, and how the body heals.
It’s a good idea to ask a prospective chiropractor about their philosophy to get a full understanding of their approach to care, and can make sure it aligns with your own approach to your health.
3) Are they transparent about their process?
Beginning chiropractic care isn’t — or shouldn’t be — as simple as just coming in for an adjustment. In our Cambridge clinic, we begin first with a conversation, then an examination, then a treatment plan, then putting that plan into action. Because chiropractic is a holistic practice, we don’t believe in jumping right into treatment without laying some groundwork first. Our process involves taking the time to understand the client’s background, concerns and goals, then measuring and assessing their body systems in detail, before outlining a customized short- and long-term treatment plan.
We lay all of this out on our website before you even visit our office because we believe that clients deserve transparent information about our time-tested process up front.
