If you have just gone through a pregnancy you have probably experienced low back pain or discomfort.
This discomfort is usually caused by the increase in the curve of your low back and tilting of the pelvis that occurs due to the weight of the baby in your abdomen. This places added weight on the joints of the low back, stress on the nerves, and stretches the muscles and ligaments of the pelvis. The added stress on the nerves of the low back can also result in pain in the legs (sciatica), leg swelling and varicose veins.
What can Chiropractic do? Plenty. Women who have Chiropractic care before and/or during pregnancy have easier pregnancies and as a general rule better deliveries. Chiropractic adjustments correct and reduce vertebral subluxations (misalignments) which allows for better nerve function, increased strength, and better spinal alignment. It also allows for better recovery after pregnancy as many women complain of spine and leg problems after delivery.
What can you do to have a normal pregnancy? Remember that being pregnant and having a baby is the most natural thing in the world. Firstly, visit a Chiropractor and have your spine checked for subluxations before you are pregnant. Secondly, eat right. You are eating for two and the baby gets what you eat. Sugar, caffeine, alcohol, smoking and food chemicals are poisons and will affect your baby. Reduce the amount of artificial food you consume. There are enough addicted, cranky, jittery adults as a result of this crap without having babies that are the same. Thirdly, water. Drink lots of water. Fourthly, get active, walk. Preferably before you get pregnant. The stronger and healthier you are, the stronger healthier your baby will be.
